What can I expect at my first visit?

Dr. Fiorillo meets each new patient for an initial evaluation during which she will assess your individual needs and begin to devise a treatment plan. The initial evaluation is 60 minutes. Following sessions typically last 50 minutes and occur once per week. Certain treatments including Exposure Therapy can consist of longer 60 or 90 minute sessions.

Does insurance cover my treatment?

Dr. Fiorillo does not accept insurance and services are considered fee-for-service. Payment is expected at the time of service. Most clients are reimbursed by their insurance companies at the “out of network rate” which generally covers 50% to 80% by self-submitting an invoice which can be provided to you upon request.

What type of treatment do you offer?

Dr. Fiorillo specializes in Cognitive and Behavioral Treatments for anxiety, trauma, and some other related problems. This usually consists of one of several types of evidence-based treatments depending on your particular situation. Treatments typically offered include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure or Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing TherapyDialectical Behavior Therapy or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. A recommendation is made based on the evaluation with regard to what treatment may be a suitable fit for you although final decisions are made collaboratively with your preferences in mind.

What does evidence-based treatment mean?

Evidence-based treatment refers to treatment that is supported by scientific evidence. Such treatments have been found to be successful based on studies and significant research. Major organizations like the American Psychological Association have increasingly advocated for the use of evidence-based practices in relation to mental health issues.

How long will I have to be in therapy?

The length of treatment varies depending upon the individual. Cognitive and Behavioral Treatments are known for results that can be achieved within a relatively short amount of time and are known to have long lasting effects. On average, cognitive and behavioral therapies require 16-20 weekly sessions to be effective, as opposed to some other forms of therapy that are often long term or open ended. Dialectical Behavior Therapy may take longer, however, depending on the problem for which it is employed. If longer term treatment is indicated, Dr. Fiorillo will discuss options with you and check in regularly throughout treatment.
